What should we wear for our Family Session

As my fall portrait schedule fills up, I keep on getting asked the same questions "what should we wear?" Do you have any suggestions on clothing?

Check out these families I found while searching online, perfect examples of the right way to dress for your session

And I am so glad I'm asked! Your portraits are important to you and an investment you make to cherish for a lifetime. They will reflect not only what you look like today, but also the era, the generation, and your family’s unique personality.

I suggest the use of color in my outdoor portraits as I find the end result much more eye-catching then the traditional look of everyone matching. There is a HUGE difference between coordinating your outfit with complimenting colors compared to everyone in all white shirts and jeans or all black shirts with khakis. When picking colors that compliment and styles that coordinate with each other, I believe it creates depth and separation between the family members, while still weaving them together to create a cohesive look.

Make no mistake, it is a challenge to coordinate a group, but with a little persistence and planning, the results will be well worth the extra effort!

So when planning your clothes, make sure to think about:
· complimenting colors {blue, green, brown} {pink, cream, brown}{yellow, navy,cream}{deep purple & gray}
· texture {sweaters}{jeans}{brown leather boots}{knit hats}
· layering - don't be afraid to layer!
· comfort

And make sure whatever you wear you feel confident in. This is especially important if your session involves a child that will need to be carried, picked up, or chased down the street. To ensure you are happy with all angles captured, wear clothing that will allow you to keep covered that which you would like to remain covered.
